Supporters gather at site of Houston's first sit-in

Supporters sing traditional Negro spirituals as they arrive at the site of Houston's first sit-in.

The 50th anniversary ceromony was held March 4, 2010 and was organized by journalism professor Serbino Sandifer-Walker. The professor wanted to commerate the brave students that risk their lives to help dismantle Houston's Jim Crom laws.

Sandifer-Walker with the help of the Texas Historic Commission designate 4110 Almeda St, fomerly the site of Weingarten's Supermarket, as a Texas historical landmark.

"These brave people risked their lives to change the injustice system that was in place in the city of Houston. I just want them to be recognize as pioneers in the Civil Rights movement," said Sandifer-Walker.

The ceromony concluded with the unveiling of the historical marker.
